What can I find on the lesson page?
Each Science lesson brings together everything you need to teach a topic, including an explainer, videos, diagrams, exercises, assessments and teacher guides. Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll find under each option.

Lesson Resources

The Lesson Resources panel brings together the supporting videos, images and diagrams available for the lesson.
There are two kinds of video content on This is School:
- 2-Minute Masterclasses: animated explainers that introduce all the details of a topic
- IRL Videos: young scientists answering key questions on the topic. Research shows that near-peer learning opportunities like this, can increase student understanding and recall.
Explainer

The Explainer provides a clear, written explanation of the lesson topic. It breaks down the key information your students need to understand, making it useful for introducing a topic, supporting independent learning or revisiting key concepts.
Exercises

The Exercises menu shows the different activities available for the lesson, such as labelling, ordering and gap-fill exercises. You can view the exercises before using them or select one or more activities to assign directly to a class. All exercises are interactive and automatically graded; students get immediate feedback and the chance to correct their errors.
Assessment

Under Assessment, you can create a summative task for your students. Choose from ready-made text or image prompts, or write your own custom question. Students will type their answer directly within the platform and you can grade them online too, with a suite of handy tools and embedded district rubrics.
Teacher Guides

The Teacher Guides drop-down gives you quick access to the Science Teacher Resources. These include guidance on using This is School with the 5Es, lesson frameworks and ideas for using IRL videos in your lessons.
